Agate
from the all-knowing Wikipedia.
For some reason, the layers of marvelous colors have sparked an interest in geology. I recently visited a showroom where the showpiece in a kitchen display was an agate countertop.
Very unique for a kitchen, an extraordinary focal point.
The colors alone could give the inspiration for an entire room.
These would be the earrings if a living room was an outfit.
Picture this pair on a white lacquered console table, or a clear acrylic one.
I saw this rug a few weeks ago and then while in Neiman Marcus in Atlanta over the weekend, I saw this display. Same idea, a bit more low-key.

Gold Digger
Instead of a branch of coral as a paperweight, object, cocktail table thing...what about a hunk of Pyrite aka "Fool's Gold"
Imagine this on a stack of books or your bedside table or on your mantle or on your new bar cart
Crystal necklaces dipped in gold
Make fabulous bookends.

Abstract Thought
Abstract art is everywhere. And "everywhere" means I've seen it in a traditional colonial house stocked with English antiques to the 92,000+ items that came back when I searched for abstract art on Etsy. Abstract art has definitely made its statement in fashion with graphic colorblock tees, printed dresses and ties. Sometimes fashion sees the trend first.
Now, canvases with splashes and drips and lines are a fantastic way to add color to a room that lacks a focal point. Or, if you can't hang a 6' painting, try a throw pillow...
