PlainAir

I happened to stroll by an Etsy shop, PlainAir, a few months ago. Toledo, Ohio artist Laura Hamilton has a very distinctive style. Her acrylic landscapes are impressionistic, colorful, almost "pixelized". In other words, I like them and think they're neat. She's quite expressive when it comes to seasons in Ohio, her study of color through landscapes are vividly bright and her color combinations are wonderfully intricate. Another visit to her shop today and she has even more fabulous paintings - if you haven't been, take a trip! And support Etsy artists because the earth without art is just eh, and so is your living room.

On My Radar

Funny, because I've been completely off the grid, but this Etsy find has a strong signal and I wanted to share.

Wall mounted or sit arounds, White Faux Taxidermy has tongue-in-chic pieces that add a little trend and a little quirk to the room.

Have I missed Shark Week? While hiding in my wedding planning cave?? Hope not.

These items can be linked back to my Posts board on Pinterest. My plan is to start compiling all post pictures in the Posts board, I'm a creative namer. That way my organization will help the masses when they try to locate their golden rhino or hot pink tiger head...it's all on my Posts board, Pinterest, check it out. Also, here's a link to White Faux Taxidermy.

Happy August, apologies for the lack of posting, will be back to normal after October when I'm a Mrs.

An Engaging Time at Anne Erwin Fine Art

After a wonderful, yet quick overnight trip to Atlanta, I'm feeling quite jet-lagged. We celebrated a favorite friend's engagement on Saturday night at an art gallery, Anne Irwin Fine Art, in Atlanta and I wanted to share the artist's work. Gary Bodner, the artist, uses a lot of vibrant colors in his oil paintings done on board instead of canvas. This technique allows him to layer colors and gives the pieces a lot of texture.

Some of the best friends anyone could ask for with the gorgeous bride on the far right.

It was such a fun party and we all loved celebrating in such a fun and unique spot. Cheers to the bride and groom!

Like I said...

The Earth without art is just Eh. Here's an artist, Dave Murray, that uses his own pencil/charcoal drawings and photoshop to create graphic pieces of artwork. Enjoy!

And another inspiring artist, Alvaro Tapia Hidalgo, for your viewing...

Both artists were found on the Decurate website.

Kelly Wearstler said "My advice to people who rent but want to redecorate is large-scale art." Etsy is a great source for originals, prints, photography, etc. and you're supporting artists, they need it.

How To...

... hang pictures for a gallery wall:

1. Focal point; pick an object as the center and fill outward.
2. Shape; pick an invisible shape (square, rectangle) and fill within those borders
3. Frame; frame everything in the same frame...like a gallery
4. Eclectic; hang it all but respect proportions, hang pictures equidistant from one another.

Test run, trace the shapes of your pictures, art, etc. on grocery bags and then hang to see how it will look before beginning to nail. Also, laying all pieces out on the floor helps to organize before they go up.

Similar frames. Convex mirror is the focal point.

Equidistance.

Same Frame.

Tie one on

I recently purchased a silk scarf from Club Monaco, they call it a head scarf. Well, I have a funny shaped head so I am going to wear it like a little old granny - around my neck. But, my "head scarf" made me start thinking about other scarves... Hermes scarves.

These beautiful masterpieces artfully accessorize, but what if you wanted to display them like works of art ALL of the time?
For instance, you could frame them in a set of three ( a triptych ) or make them into an ultra-luxe pillow

Below are some favorites...

So, raid your mother's, your grandmother's,your uncle's ascots, local vintage stores, weekend flea markets, ebay, etsy, any scarves will do (not just Hermes, but they'd be nice.)

And, as a side note, Hermes Orange is a color you will be seeing a lot of this fall. I'm just saying.
