You Can't Handle the Truth

What do lawyers do when they have an enormous case with multiple testimonies and tons of key witnesses? They order Chinese take-out and pour over past cases like, Purple vs. the Board of Trustees, at least that's what Tom and Demi did ... and they won.

So, what do I do when I need a little inspiration, I do homework. Currently pondering what to do in a client's living room, I needed a little stimulus. Here are some of the favorites that I have added to my files.

I wonder if I could do a self-portrait as sassy as this mantel piece-o-work.

The Countdown Begins...

September Thirteenth Two Thousand and Eleven.

Build it.

How easy do you think this would be to build (i.e. have someone build for you)?

Or, Ikea's knockoff at $89

Ikea also has a knock-off Saarinen table.

Can you tell the difference?

I'll show you the difference... math.
One is $1807 and one is $179.
My conscience is yelling at me right now. Ghanel and Cucci knockoffs are bad, they support terrorism in far off countries and make small children's fingers fall off. However, these knockoffs are from Sweden and are for those that cannot afford 60 watts of light in exchange for a paycheck.

Window Dressings

My aim is to re-make these and show the how-to on Interioriented. Stay tuned.

Another easy how-to. Follow the link from pinterest and see. All it takes is an iron, stitch-witchery or any other iron on fabric fastener, cutting the width needed for the stripes and grosgrain ribbon to finish the raw edges of the stripe.

I love these draperies from Anthropologie. In a bedroom with white and gray...

... with this crustacean on the floor.

Cha-cha-cha.

Kelly Wearstler said "My advice to people who rent but want to redecorate is large-scale art." Etsy is a great source for originals, prints, photography, etc. and you're supporting artists, they need it.

Charleston Trip: Nosin' around the neighborhood

I was a blatant tourist, I took pictures of everything. Some photos from our walk around the neighborhood we stayed in, near the Battery.

This is "fig leaf" it grows e-ver-eee-where in Charleston, it's hardy and I hope to transplant it somewhere here. Instead of loose ivy, using this as a patio wall covering would be the ticket.

Orange house, purple door. Looks like the fall colors in JCrew.

Paisley shrubbery.

Sky blue ceiling, painting the ceiling blue keeps the bugs away, they think it's the sky and continue to fly upward. Dumb bugs.

Charleston Trip: Fast & French

IMG_0121

This small hole-in-the-wall, Gaulart et Maliclet Cafe, was my most favorite part of the whole trip. We ate a late lunch here and on the lunch menu your "value meal" came with sandwich, salad, and beverage - water, tea or house wine: red or white. America, I mean North Carolina should take this tradition on at all lunch counters, like their southern cousin, S. Carolina.

Not to mention, the interior was darling. No other word could describe it. A shotgun shape building - long and narrow - shared bar height tables, very simple. Maps, European posters and paper cardinals for decoration.

But I bet the girl behind the counter was not inspired by me, I bet she was annoyed. I painted with the testers, but I did go back and purchase - r pinkie "summer peach"

Hardware

Cabinet hardware can revive your kitchen. Marinate on these...

XXL cabinet pulls. Makes a solid statement in brushed chrome, appliances and backsplash agree.

I could see these on painted cabinets, navy or mossy grey/green.

Green knobs on white cabinets.

Not the most efficient, but on cabinets in a library or bar or powder room. The ideas runneth over.

Pretty, eclectic, handmade look.

21st century version...

... of these! But, these could be interesting in the right setting.

How To...

... hang pictures for a gallery wall:

1. Focal point; pick an object as the center and fill outward.
2. Shape; pick an invisible shape (square, rectangle) and fill within those borders
3. Frame; frame everything in the same frame...like a gallery
4. Eclectic; hang it all but respect proportions, hang pictures equidistant from one another.

Test run, trace the shapes of your pictures, art, etc. on grocery bags and then hang to see how it will look before beginning to nail. Also, laying all pieces out on the floor helps to organize before they go up.

Similar frames. Convex mirror is the focal point.

Equidistance.

Same Frame.
